Viognier Chardonnay 2025
Until now, we have always made our white wines as single varietals. Over the past few years, however, we have developed a particular fondness for white blends. We are fascinated by the way different grape varieties enter into dialogue and together create more expression than each could on its own.
This cuvée is therefore our first deliberate search for harmony between two white varieties. The Chardonnay comes from a hillside in Tartegnin, VD, while the Viognier grows on a parcel near Lake Geneva in Buchillon, VD. Two grape varieties, two terroirs and two methods of ageing that complement one another in a surprisingly natural way.
The Viognier was aged in one of our first barrels made from local Jura oak, which gave it depth, structure and fine toasty notes. But since I don't care for wines in which the wood dominates, I made a conscious choice to marry it with a tank-aged Chardonnay. Its freshness and the creamy texture from the malolactic fermentation give the wine balance and elegance.
The result is a wine in which the wood no longer sets the tone but becomes part of the harmony. Viognier and Chardonnay weave their aromas into a layered whole, while the creaminess of the Chardonnay gently envelops the barrel ageing of the Viognier.
Tasting notes
- Apricot
- Peach
- Pear
- Acacia blossom
- Orange blossom
- Honey
- Toast
- Almond
Our first white blend brings together the aromatic richness of Viognier and the elegance of Chardonnay. On the nose, notes of apricot, peach and pear unfold, accompanied by acacia and orange blossom, a touch of honey and fine citrus aromas.
On the palate, the wine is generous and harmonious. The creamy texture and the delicate brioche and cream notes of the Chardonnay combine with the structure of the barrel-aged Viognier. The ageing in Jura oak lends the wine subtle hints of toast and almond, which today fit perfectly into the whole.
A layered, elegant white wine with depth, freshness and remarkable length.
